Gordon Brown backs "community crime fighters"...?
A good idea? Or a recipe for vigilanteism? Why not take the £500m that PCSOs are costing us, employ more Police and free them up from red tape instead of getting the public to do their job for them on the cheap...? Is Brown completely off his rocker? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7460134.stm Online maps with crimes plotted on them every month are set to be introduced in England and Wales, Gordon Brown says. The prime minister said that although crime had fallen "too many people don't believe the system is on their side". Mr Brown also backed plans to create "community crime fighters" - people such as tenant groups given cash and training to help tackle crime. The report suggests a "community crime fighters' umbrella organisation" including tenants' groups and other community groups - to help tackle crime and "community kitties" to fund them. Mr Brown said: "Through this report people have told us what they want to be done and we are going to act."

- Crime fighting should be left to the professionals. Give the money to the Police and empower/train them to do their jobs properly. Another half- arsed idea I'm afraid.
- Why can't we just have more police instead of this Government making up ridiculous jobs at every turn.
- Hitler had a pretty similar idea. First they were part time enthusiasts called them the SA under the control of Ernst Rohm. Eventually they developed sophistication, became more organised and ended up gassing six million jews.
- They're taking in the same type of "community support" Garda(police) here in Ireland. Just what we need, loads of ex-bullying victims and other tw*ts with grudges roaming the streets trying to "get even" with someone or another. Get the cops out from behind desks and on the beat, get civilians to handle paperwork and we'd have far less crime.
- Who will have the most power the police or the so called community groups? Will there be separate police stations? Will the community groups work shifts? Will these so called groups arrest their friends, neighbours and family for crimes or will they just pick on the vulnerable members of their estate. Whoever advises the P.M on these crazy ideas is getting paid too much money.
- Leave problems relating to the law to the police!
